Colorado Cruise-January 18-24

Sherri and I represented the Univeristy by attending the Colorado district pastors retreat. The retreat was a five day cruise in the Western Caribbean. I know a tough job, but somebody has to do it:) The Colorado district joined with the Dallas district pastors that included about 120 pastors and spouses. The Carnival Cruise, the Ecstasy, which was fitting for a pastors retreat, left port in Galveston, Texas. We stopped at ports in Progresso and Cozumel, Mexico. We enjoyed connecting with pastors from both districts. The districts had short daily meetings that included worship and a devotional.

As with most Cruises we enjoyed the food, and the food, and more food! We also enjoyed spending time at the beaches in the warm sun! The water in Cozumel was crystal clear! We had a great time, despite some problems we had with Sherri not sleeping well due to noise in our cabin.

We had a great week! We thank NNU for sending us on the Cruise. I think my new title should be Dean of the School of Theology and Director of Cruises!

Kentucky Trip-January 13-17

I began my sabbatical by spending a few days visiting my family in Kentucky. I stayed with my parents in Olive Hill for a couple of days. It was snowing there and the temperatures were in the single digits, not typical for winter in Kentucky. I attended my home church on Wednesday night. It was good to see "old" friends and family. It also brought back some great spiritual memories and commitments of faith, including my call to ministry in 1984. I was reminded of the wonderful faith community that nurtured my faith during those critical years of my life. It also reminded me of how God lead me to move to Asbury College in 1984 to prepare for ministry--A move that transformed my life and placed me on the path of intellectual and spiritual growth.

On Thursday I traveled to Louisville to visit my younger sister Kristie and Keith and the boys. I enjoyed playing with the boys, Christine, Cameron (Mark), and Colin. I played Wii with Colin (in picture) and he destroyed me in bowling. He is only 4 years old:)

NAPCE Board Meeting, January 17-18

On Friday and Saturday I attended the NAPCE (North American Professors of Christian Education) board meeting in downtown Louisville, where there conference will be held in October 2009. We stayed in the historic Brown Hotel. I enjoyed getting connected with colleagues in Christian education from several colleges and seminaries in the US and Canada.
